Being a Kid at Heart

Last week, I was challenged with something unexpectedly fun: Puzzle Mania.   Most of my blog themes revolve around self-care, and this one is no different.

Not long ago, a friend shared a reel with me. It showed a group of teachers on a “smoke break”—except none of them smoked. Instead, they were standing around blowing bubbles, giggling, and “smoking” or “blowing” their stress away. I immediately said, “Girls, I am buying bubbles on my way home.”  And that’s exactly what I did.  I stopped at the closest Dollar General, picked up a six-pack of bubbles, and went straight home to blow my stress away. Now, my animals didn’t exactly love the constant bubbling in their faces—but they survived. And I had fun. For a few minutes, I completely forgot about everything else.

As many of you know, I love a good word search. So when I was invited into this little world of Puzzle Mania, I was elated. There were fall-themed word games, a number search, Sudoku, and even a dot-to-dot! I even took a moment to color a picture.  What a lovely break from the hustle and bustle of life. Sometimes, it’s perfectly okay—necessary, even—to pause and do something silly, something lighthearted, something joyful… just to reset your mind and soul.

The day after the bubble run, I stopped by 7 Brew. I placed my coffee order, and when I got to the front of the line, I looked at the barista and asked,

“Do you want to blow bubbles today?”  She looked at me a little confused and said, “I mean… yeah?” So I handed her two bottles of bubbles. The look on her face was priceless. Just like me, she started blowing bubbles into the air and at her coworkers, giggling like a little kid.  She handed me my coffee and said,

“Thank you. You really made my day.”  Mission accomplished.

So I ask you—what did you love as a kid?

Take a minute and be that kid again.

The delight you’ll feel is contagious.
