Choosing Happiness

As I sit at my desk in my home office, I glance at the clock before my next patient. This is something I talk about so often in my sessions:  Every day, we have a choice.  You can wake up, have everything go wrong, and choose to let it define your day. Or—you can choose to be happy anyway.

Is it really that simple?

Honestly, most of the time, yes.  It starts with mindset. We have to be intentional about how we shape our days, about filling them with what we enjoy and who we want to become. Life is too short to spend it unhappy.  I am in the second half of my journey on this earth, and I don’t want to live with regrets.

About a year ago, my job was “restructured.” I was devastated—but that restructuring became a pivotal chapter in my story. My mindset shifted. I decided I would no longer allow myself to stay in toxic environments or around toxic people.  Fast forward a bit: I started a new job, full of hope. But within a few months, I realized that my manager didn’t share the same values or vision. They were focused on their own advancement—not on supporting their colleagues or serving patients with compassion. I knew I couldn’t stay, and honestly, I was scared.  But I also knew what I wanted in life. I knew what mattered to me.  So—I quit.  I put my full trust in God and in the plan He has for me. That path might not be easy for everyone, but I’ll tell you this: becoming the best version of yourself often takes risks.  Sometimes life feels scary for a few weeks. But I promise—it will be worth it.
